Bromate Removal from Water Using Ion Exchange Resin: Batch and Fixed Bed Column Performance

In this study, the removal of bromate, a regulated ozone by-product, was evaluated using strong-base anion (SBA) exchange resin in batch and column experiments. The kinetics studies mode showed that film diffusion-controlled bromate SBA isotherm Langmuir model fitted experimental results with maximum capacity 296.66 mg BrO3−/g (~1.3 meq/mL resin). fixed-bed studies, breakthrough curves were obtained under different operating conditions to examine effects feed flow rate, inlet concentration, bed height on performance. A modified n-order Bohart Adams (n-BAM-c), which considered asymmetry curve channeling, applied for first time describe data from predict curves. It found n-BAM-c well (R2 > 0.99) key parameters determined. Overall, show is suitable water could be powerful tool design upscaling ion columns.
